The twin solid rocket boosters ignited initially, supplying over 75% of required thrust to lift the 5.75-million-pound rocket. Combined with four operational RS-25 engines, they produced 8.8 million pounds of thrust at liftoff. During ascent, ground connection umbilicals retracted into protective enclosures, ensuring vehicle autonomy from ground systems.
